Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico (CAASNM) has undergone a program restructure, moving all programs and personnel under four Service Groups: Family Empowerment, Bridging Resources, Family Wellness, and Community Connections.
Family Empowerment helps families increase their personal assets through training, financial literacy and business development. Bridging Resources connects families to community resources and benefits which can increase financial stability. Family Wellness keeps families healthy by providing supplemental funding for nutritional meals to children and disabled adults in home-based daycares and educating their caregivers. Community Connections creates an opportunity for CAASNM to work with community partners to leverage resources and increase the impact of our services for our clients and the community.
In addition to the restructure, Dawn Z. Hommer, CEO, has promoted Cari Karns, former CAASNM Development Director, to the position of COO. Karns says her expanded leadership role “is an opportunity to implement the strategic priorities of the agency and continue to refine services that will deliver high-impact results for Southern New Mexico.” Prior to CAASNM, Karns served in various nonprofit leadership roles in Colorado, Montana, and California. She holds a M.Ed. and is a nationally certified trainer.
CAASNM is a non-profit corporation dedicated to building self-reliance for low-income New Mexicans by connecting our community to high-impact programs that encourage family wellness, empower families and bridge resources.
CAASNM has served the community for nearly five decades with high-impact programs to move people out of poverty and build self-sufficiency. Its vision is a community where opportunity exists for all to become self-sufficient. Its purpose is to be a voice for underrepresented populations, mobilize communities, advocate for the poor, and work with the community to better the resources and lives of the people who live in it. CAASNM is an active partner with dozens of businesses and other agencies in its service area that work to improve the quality of life for the community. CAASNM also serves as a catalyst for change by helping new programs launch and sustain themselves. Focus areas are Family Empowerment, Bridging Resources, Family Wellness and Community Connections.
